Angelica sinensis, commonly known as Dong Quai (Dang Gui) or "female ginseng" is a herb from the family Apiaceae, indigenous to China. Angelica sinensis grows in cool high altitude mountains in China, Japan, and Korea. The yellowish brown root of the plant is harvested in fall. It can be used to prevent infections and treating mild bacterial infections, soothe inflamed joints, and also aid in digestion after a big meal. While Angelica can be used to help with a vairety of ailments, it should be noted that it may also make the skin sensitive to sunlight.
